A local mom and her son have achieved great heights in education, but it didn't come easily. The pair recently earned their PhDs on the very same day, a goal that seemed impossible when their long journey began.
"Never in a thousand, million, trillion years [did I expect to get my PhD]. The thought of becoming a doctor anyone was far fetched," said Dr. Maurice McBride. He got his diploma at a ceremony in Minneapolis, MN in August, but the day wasn't just about his accomplishment. It was about sharing the stage with his mother.
"I never thought I would get chance to see my mother walk across the stage and then she turned around and saw me walk across the stage," he said. CONTINUE

The Nigerian Ambassador To The US Says "God Is A Nigerian"

The Nigerian ambassador to the United States, Prof. Ade Adefuye has said that God is a Nigerian. He made the declaration yesterday at the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans’(CANAN) first Charity Gala and Top Ten Awards Dinner. He said that it was divine power that made it possible for Nigeria to survive the obstacles it has encountered. He gave an example of the succession crisis that followed the death of former President Umaru Yar’adua. Parents Outraged Over Pupils Learning About Jay Z As An Example Of A Successful Business Tycoon

According to a report on Fox news, parents of 6th graders at Desoto Central Middle School at angry on the school teaching their kidsabout Jay Z. The report states;

"Sixth graders at Desoto Central Middle School spent three days learning about one of the most successful hip-hop artists and entrepreneurs in the nation. They were also tested on their knowledge about Jay-Z’s “resilience.”
A parent, who had a son in the English class, reached out to me – and she’s fired up. The mad mom asked to remain anonymous over fears of repercussions. I was able to verify her claims and have agreed to provide anonymity.
“One of the songs listed on the paper that was brought home was ‘Big Pimpin’,” she told me. “Another song talked about thug life. My child was getting an education about thug life.”

When Rihanna went back home to Barbados recently there are reports from multiple people on the island that one night during her visit Rihanna overdosed on drugs and had to have a doctor rush to her and pump her stomach. Apparently Rihanna was smoking kush and then decided to smoke some that had been laced either with PCP or some other type of drug. She kept smoking it as if it was just a regular joint and had smoked two of them before the effects hit and they hit hard. While smoking she was also drinking and the doctor said that if she had passed out away from friends and the party that she probably would have died.

Someone asked me this question at work the other day and it occurred to me that this was one of those topics couples try to avoid. Personally, I think it depends on the individual i.e if the person is one that won't or would get offended when you bring up such discussion, so you can either give the person a deodorant as a gift or offer mint as a token *shines teeth*. A young Indian woman was beaten to death by members of her own family and her boyfriend beheaded in an horrific honour killing after they were lured back to their village thinking were going to be allowed to marry. Nidhi Barak, 20, a fine arts student, and Dharmender Barak, 23, who was studying at technical college, were killed last night as locals in Gharnavati village in the Indian state of Haryana watched on. The pair had eloped to nearby Delhi on Tuesday because their families did not approve of their relationship.But they had been lured back with promises that they would not be harmed and would finally be allowed to marry. Miss Barak's parents and uncle have been arrested and police are now trying to trace her brother and other family members who disappeared missing since the crime. A Nigerian Grad Student Proves Gay Marriage Is Wrong Using A Magnet...

A scientist in Nigeria has come up with an interesting theory that gay marriage is wrong via an experiment using magnets and other methods. Chibuihem Amalaha, a graduate student of chemical engineering at the University of Lagos, claims that same-sex unions can be disproved scientifically and has the academic support of his university. Nigerian newspaper The Daily Live profiled Amalaha, who has written and published various articles as a science reporter. Along with puffing his chest over his various achievements in science, Amalaha revealed his head-turning revelation that gay marriage is wrong and how his multilayer research proves as such.

Things I Have Learnt And Believe To Be True...

When I got the email from one of my mentors, I knew  I was going to share it but I was contemplating sharing his or mine. Anyway, it would be more significant to share the things that I have learnt and know to be true rather than share, although there are similarities between both. Well, here it goes;

1. Yes, God is real.

2.  Be the real you and "Never" wish to be somebody else.

3. Don't let people change who you are just be who you are with someone else..

4. A mother's love is stronger than distance, more powerful than time and can transcend the grave.

5. Heartbreak can make you hard! But don't let it make you bitter

6.  Don't try to be seen, God may be hiding you on purpose.

Earlier this year, I was approached to do some media consultancy in Nigeria. I’d just left the BBC after 18 years, to set up my own business, so this seemed a great opportunity. The advice fell into two camps:
a) Don’t go, you’ll get kidnapped or catch malaria. Either way, you’re going to die
